直捷英语7 UNIT 59 Lesson 1 The job 工作 角色 JACK TESS JACK: Tess! You look terrific. TESS: Jack. How are you? JACK: Great. How are you? TESS: Great. How’s Kate? JACK: We don’t see each other any more. TESS: Ah. JACK: I guess I’m not very good at relationships. TESS: I guess not. Is that what you wanted to talk about-how bad you are in relationships? JACK: No, no, no, No. I need some help. And you are a detective. TESS: Oh. Well. Are you in trouble? JACK: No. But I…Look, can I tell you what I know? Are you OK with this? TESS: Yeah. I’m OK with it. JACK: A couple of months ago, I started with a new company, Indica Biomedical. It was a big move for me. They wanna restructure…anyway. This morning, my boss didn’t show up for work. No one has heard from him. TESS: I hate to be mundane, but it’s usually something very simple. Vacation. Illness. Traffic. JACK: All the usual stuff is out. His wife is away at some spa, and no one at the company seems concerned. They say it happens all the time. TESS: That this guy doesn’t show up? JACK: Gene. Gene Nyatt. Yeah. TESS: Alcohol? Drugs? Gambling? JACK: They swear he’s an upstanding guy. I think it’s weird. TESS: Why don’t you believe it’s a harmless absence? JACK: We’re about to give the biggest presentation in the company’s history in less than two weeks. TESS: Weird. JACK: The one thing I do know is that Gene has lunch plans with someone on Tuesday-tomorrow. You know Cornucopia? TESS: Fancy. Who’s the someone? JACK: I don’t know. Do you think you could just see if Gene turns up? TESS: We can do that, if you can afford us. JACK: That’s not a problem. TESS: Then we can do it. If Gene’s not around, how do you know about the appointment? JACK: He mentioned it to me last week. We were trying to schedule something. I wrote it down. TESS: OK. Cornucopia. One o’clock.
直捷英语8 UNIT 70 Lesson 1 Jack’s other face 杰克的另一面 角色 JACK SUSAN SUSAN: Whatever it is, Jack, it’ll have to wait. JACK: Ah ah ah. Aren’t we supposed to stay calm? Lie low? No sudden movements? SUSAN: I’m going out. Why don’t you call your detectives and let them know? JACK: Come on, Susan. Talk to me. Is it a good deal? Shouldn’t I know about it? Shouldn’t I be in on it? SUSAN: Oh, I thought you were after truth, justice, and the American way. You’re amazing. A couple of months in the job and you act like you own the place. I admire your initiative. I really do. We’re alike in that. Both driven. Unfortunately, I have no idea what you’re talking about. JACK: Who are you protecting? Gene? Bob? Why? Whatever it is you’re up to, they cannot be pleased with what’s happening. Sam spilling the beans to a reporter. Me hiring investigators. I can help. If you include me I can be a big help. We can straighten this mess out, do things the way you want to. The way you were trying to. It’s not your fault it all got so complicated. SUSAN: You’re imagining things. Oh good. JACK: Tess.
